5 innovative (and useful!) hot tools we’re using every single morning
This article is for information only and doesn’t call for any action.
When it comes to hot tools, most women reach for the trinity: hair dryers, flat irons, and curling wands. Admittedly, however, these tools haven’t really changed a whole heck of a lot since my mom initially introduced me to them years ago as a pre-teen. But the past few years have been filled with hot takes on hair tools. I’m talking hot-iron brushes, air wrapping curling wands, and battery-operated straighteners that allow you to finally cut the cord and help your hair do its thing.
So, happily, I’d like to introduce you to a new generation of hot tools that are easy to use, multi-tasking wonders that help to smooth strands, bring major volume, and add a bend to hair in unique new ways. Keep scrolling for the top 5 hair tools that just got major upgrades.
I’m all for a flatiron, but if you have knots in your hair, it’s not gonna help you out. This Drybar creation combines the ability to detangle plus smooth out strands. You simply brush your hair like you would normally, but this device magically makes your hair super smooth—like, you’re not going to have any frizz after using it. If your goal is to simply make your hair pin-straight, I’d suggest sticking with a traditional iron, but—especially if you’re prone to frizz—this tool is great for keeping stray hairs under control.
A Dyson launch is always an earth-shattering event—and the beauty world got lucky with this one. The Airwrap Styler lets you curl, straighten, and dry without any risk of burning your fingers or damaging your hair with heat, because it’s using a genius air-flow technology. It comes with a selection of styling rods (along with the rough dryer), and each one has various slots around it that create what’s called a Coanda effect. This sucks your hair for you through air pressure and then perfectly curls or straightens it. Sure, the price tag is hefty, but it’s truly one-of-a-kind.
While I love the curls and waves that come from curling irons, I’ve shied away from them out of pure, well, laziness. It takes true skills and dexterity in order to perfectly curl your hair in sections from the front of your face and right around to the back—also, it kills your biceps and shoulder muscles after a while. But Kristin Ess’s pivoting wand is pure genius, because the wand itself can rotate from 90 to 180 degrees, making your styling game much easier. Like, with this, I can now curl the hair on the back of my head with ease—something I never thought was possible.
If you’re perpetually on-the-go and/or primping in locker rooms, this is a must-have product. It’s like your typical flatiron—with adjustable heat settings and the ability to curl or straighten—only it’s portable. Because it’s wireless, you can throw it in your gym bag, suitcase, purse, whatever, and use without the need to search for an outlet. It can hold its charge for 45 minutes, so it’s perfect for your on-the-road needs. It’s become my MVP for styling.
I love killing two birds with one stone, so tools that dry while styling really speak to me. If you’re one of those people who will *never* be able to master the round brush-blowdryer technique, the styler is a great way to smooth hard-to-reach places while you dry your hair. It’s particularly great at taming frizz and flyaways, which are all-too-common this time of the year.
